ZAKAT APPLICABLE
What better time to stand for justice, dignity, and the preservation of knowledge than Ramadan, the month of of giving, of rebuilding what was broken?
For centuries, the 700 year old madrasa and masjid in Mehrauli stood as a legacy of faith and learning. For Zakir Sahab, this place was more than just walls and books. It was where he grew up, where he studied, and where he spent his life as an Ustad, passing down knowledge to young minds. It was a space where the light of learning never dimmed, until January 31, 2024, when both the masjid and madarasa were demolished.
When everything fell apart, survival became the only priority. Without a means to sustain himself, to make ends meet, Zakir Sahab started working as a Rapido driver, a job that, while honest, stripped him of the identity he had carried with such dignity.
When Miles2Smile learned of his struggle, we stepped in to help them in every way possible. We relocated the displaced children to Kala Mahal, ensuring they had food, books, and the essentials they needed to continue their education.
To restore what was lost, we are setting up a stationery and book supply outlet for Zakir Sahab, a livelihood that is not just sustainable, but dignified. A means for him to remain rooted in ilm, to once again serve the students and teachers he dedicated his life to.
Nearby madrasas have already pledged their support, committing to source their supplies from him. This is more than just an income, it is the restoration of his rightful place in the community. A place he never should have lost.
To make this a reality, we need to raise 4 lakh rupees.
This Ramadan, help us restore dignity and knowledge. Donate today.
