A violent clash occurred during a Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich, leading to the death of one individual and injuries to many on October 13, earlier this month. Soon the clash turned into a massive nightmare for residents, with torched properties, charred vehicles, and melting trees adding horror to it.
With news grabbing the prime time and top headlines of daily sections, revealing the dreadful glimpses of residents, Miles2Smile decided to travel to Bahraich and talk to the anguished people.
We entered Bahraich, which was once famous for history, culture, and natural beauty, now a heap of shattered lives on October 18. Amidst police units, barricades, and a security checkpoint, we managed to meet the survivors of the clash. Kaleem, his brothers and his three paternal uncles are one of them.
Kaleem, a vegetable vendor, spoke to Miles2Smile about the horrific ordeal they encountered. He revealed that a furious mob armed with burning touch, sticks, and other weapons barged into his house and set it ablaze.
The burning fumes of his hard-earned assets could not melt the hearts of the mob; rather, it stimulated them to further set his vehicle and vegetables owned by Kaleem, his brothers and three of his uncles on fire.
While his vehicle was licking up the frame, consuming the rubber tires and melting the plastic components, the mob tried to cast his 6-year-old daughter into the flames.
Kaleem fortunately could protest and save his daughter, but his bike and the vegetables turned into ashes in front of his eyes.
Kaleem, his brothers and his uncles were vegetable vendors; now they are incomeless.
A blaze of hatred has burned the only source of income of many family members, but a blaze of love is in us too. Miles2Smile has decided to help Kaleem, his brothers and three uncles set up their business again. For that, we need your concrete support!
Help us in building their business and their only means of income. Their business needs Rs. 4,50,000 to stand again; We are ready to help him, are you?
