The effects of Delhi pogrom was very heart wrenching. Houses and shops burnt or looted and people were killed in most inhuman way possible. Large number of people were taking refuge in Mustafabad, Jaffarabad, Chaman Park and other surrounding areas. Taking care of the hygiene was a major issue as it could have led to outbreak of an epidemic. There was an acute shortage of gynecologist and pediatricians. Immediate need of medical assistance was a must. Miles2Smile was able to rope in several doctors and medical staffs mostly through the personal contact of the team. Later few more doctors roped in. We organized a medical camp at Al-Islah Public School in Babunagar, Mustafabad so that all the basic immediate medical needs could be addressed. Around 1500 riot victims along with some locals were treated. We were in constant touch with several hospitals who promised for full co-operation. Several victims with serious injuries and some pregnant women were shifted to these hospitals. In later phase we started a mobile clinic to reach out to all those patients who were not able to reach to our medical camp.
